Mrs. Mary Alice (Woodyard) Barnes, age 96 of Stone Mountain, died May 18, 2001. She was born in Powder Springs, Georgia, December 23, 1904 to the late J.L. and Bell Freeman. Mrs. Barnes was the widow of Judson W. Barnes and the mother of the late Walter O. Woodyard and was previously married to the late Seth Woodyard.
Survivors include sons and daughters in-law, Robert and Juanita Woodyard, Stone Mountain; Rev. Herbert and Martha Woodyard, Snellville; Howell and Judy Woodyard, Franklin Springs, Georgia; Douglas and Harriett Woodyard, Panama City Beach, Florida; daughters and sons in-law, Lillian and Billy Huff, Douglasville; Faye and Tommy Minch, Stone Mountain; daughter, Grace Britt, Snellville; daughter in-law, Mrs. Walter (Tillie) Woodyard, College Park; step-daughters, Barbara Glessner, Lilburn; Billie Staff, Gainesville, Florida; 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker and a member of Pine Lake Baptist Church and previously was a long-time member of Moreland Avenue Baptist Church in East Atlanta. Funeral services will be held at Ward's Stone Mountain Chapel, Monday, May 21, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Herbert F. Woodyard officiating.
Interment will follow at Hanna Cemetery, Rising Fawn (Dade County), Georgia. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 20th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Horis A. Ward, Inc., Stone Mountain Chapel. (770) 381-5722.
