Obituary Online notes for Edward Garfield DEHART
Edward G. DeHart, age 80, of Peterstown, WV, went to be with the Lord on Sunday March 28th after a long and courageous battle of dealing with life after a stroke. Eddie, as he was known by his many friends, was born in McDowell County, WV June 7, 1929. One of two boys born to the late Estil and Mabel DeHart, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Estil (Junior) DeHart. His family moved to Peterstown when he was an infant and he resided there until his passing. Eddie is survived by his loving, attentive wife of fifty one years, Pauline Sharpe DeHart. He is also survived by his son Gary and wife Tina of Peterstown, and his grandson Logan whom he treasured and loved deeply. Eddie was a graduate of Peterstown High School in 1947 and a member of the first undefeated Peterstown football team. As an outdoor enthusiast, he and his son spent most of their free time fishing and hunting together. He was also a very dedicated fan of all WVU and Peterstown High School sports. During the Korean War, Eddie served his country in the Navy. Upon returning to Monroe County, Eddie was employed by Celanese where he worked as an electrician for over 35 years. After retirement, the south called and Eddie and Pauline became snowbirds and resided in Florida for thirteen years. The family will welcome family and friends at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown on Monday March 29th from 6-8 pm. Honoring Eddie's request, only graveside services will be held with the Reverend Aubrey Whitlow and Reverend Doug Hyndrich on Tuesday March 30th at 1 pm at the Peterstown Cemetery. Persons wishing to attend may gather, at the funeral home, at 12:30. The family wishes to thank all of Eddie's special caregivers who allowed him to stay in his home as long as possible, the staff at Country View Assisted Living, and Greenbrier Valley Hospice. The wonderful care provided allowed Eddie to have the best quality life possible. Eddie was full of life with a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, it was Eddie's wish, donations be made to Rich Creek First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 108 Old Virginia Ave., Rich Creek, VA., 24147. Arrangements by Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, WV.
