Johnny M. Rivers, 87, of 3704 Keener Rd. Clinton, passed away with family by his side on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25th, 2024 at Southwood Nursing Center.
Johnny, (aka John) born October 4th, 1937 in Burlington, NC was the son of the late Benjamin McKinley Rivers and Vita Viola Clapp Brannock who later married Jack Brannock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Neal Rivers and his brother Benjamin McKinley Rivers, Jr.
John was a PGA Class A Golf Pro for many years at Indian Valley Golf Course in Burlington. He was also a Veteran of the US Navy as a Medic, a landscape & still artist, classic mustang restorer and lovingly remembered by all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Papa John.
Survivors include his three daughters, Mary-Katherine Smith (Alan) of Raleigh, NC, Julie A. Rivers of Roswell, GA and Ashley M. Rivers (Cale Tart) of Clinton, NC; two step-children, Claire Purdy (Scott) of Waxhaw, NC and Cord Finley (Naomi) of Manasssas, VA.; twelve grandchildren, Logan E. Speaker (Christopher), Spencer K. Rivers-Dutcher (Krystal), Jordan C. Smith, Lucas R. Brow, Oscar M. Brow, Julian S. Brow, Ellis M. Dunn, Alex Purdy (Andrea Anderson), Audrey Purdy Allen (Andrew), William Purdy (Hannah Moore, fiance), Nikko Finley, Neal Finley ; four great-grandchildren, Tripp & Grady Speaker, Mia & Finley; Niece Beth R. Travis.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-4 pm and a service from 4-5 in the chapel at Rich & Thompson Burlington, this Saturday, January 4th, 2024. 261, Johnny M. Rivers
