Obituary Online notes for Oakie Harold THOMPSON
Oakie Harold, Thompson 74, of 1716 Clay Street, S.E., Roanoke, and formerly of Bluewell, died Thursday, May 23, 1996, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 13, 1921, in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Ollie Thompson.
Mr. Thompson had been a resident of Roanoke for 19 years, and was a former taxi cab driver for Bluefield Cab.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Weldon, Archie and Hubert Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Mae Osborne Thompson of Roanoke; two sons, Harold Thompson and Daniel Thompson of Roanoke; a daughter, Pamela Milliner of Roanoke; three stepsons, Ricky Lawson and Dallas Lawson of Roanoke, and Darrell Lawson of Bastian; a stepdaughter, Sharon Green of Roanoke; a sister, Virgie Peters of Florida; three brothers, Sidney Thompson of Bedford, Ralph Thompson of Norfolk and Garland Thompson of Arkansas; 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 1996, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, with Jerry Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va. Friends may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Monday.
