Mr. Roy Earl Cole, 58, of 2006 John Small Ave., Washington, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mike Gladson officiating with full military honors. Jim Buckman, Michael Walker, Reggie Cole, Mike Cole, William "Pod" Alligood, John Taylor, Robert Waters and Melvin Grant will serve as pallbearers.
The family will join friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., today, Feb. 19, 2003, at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington and at other times at the home. Mr. Cole was born Aug. 18, 1944 in Beaufort County. He was the son of the late Elmer Leonard Cole and Hallie Kernodle Cole Swanner. On Nov. 4, 1972, he married the former Mary Frances McLawhorn. He was a retired Sgt. E-5 combat service veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mary McLawhorn Cole; one son, Roy Earl Cole II of Washington; one sister, Frances Cole Warren of Kinston; one brother, John Donald Cole of Richmond, Va.; and one aunt, Mary Cole Keech of Terra Ceia community, Pantego; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lou Cole Alligood and Margaret Jean Cole Taylor; two brothers, William G. "Billy" Cole and Clyde L. Cole; and one nephew, Tim Alligood.
