Mrs. Carrie Bell Kernodle Hackney, 89, widow of George Franklin Hackney, died Wednesday morning in Duke University Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County she was educated in the Burlington City Schools, Elon College and the University of Denver. Mrs. Hackney was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Rand Bible Class and Women's Missionary Society. She was a member of the Blossom Garden Club, General Davie Chapter of the DAR and a charter member of the Durham Womens Club.
Surviving are one son, G. Frank Hackney, Jr. of Raleigh and two grandsons, George F. Hackney, III and Steven T. Hackney both of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Rick West. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home Thursday night from 7 until 9 o'clock.
Instead of flowers memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
