HILLSBOROUGH — Mrs. Olgie Marinda Somers Anderson, age 92, formerly of Elon, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, surrounded by family at her home after several months of failing health.
Born June 2, 1920, in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Eunice McKinney Somers and was married to the late J. Howard Anderson, who died in 1996. She was a graduate of Reidsville High School in the class of 1936. Olgie retired from AT&T Guilford Center with more than 25 years of service and was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she was involved in The Rejoice Circle, and she was also a member of the AT&T Pioneers.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her two daughters, Donna Anderson Ray and her husband, Jim, of Hillsborough, and Jo Anne Anderson Byerly and her husband, Ron, of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Mark Ray of Hillsborough, Scott Ray and his wife, Leslie, of Hillsborough, Bryan Byerly and his wife, Faera, of Chapel Hill, and Leah Marinda Byerly Dillon and her husband, David, of Huntersville; and six great-grandchildren, Travis Ray, Morgan Ray, Aidan Ray, Connor Ray, Vivian Byerly and Claire Dillon. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Ruby Walker, Louise Wagoner and Edna Manley; and two brothers, Wilber Somers and Grant Somers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Nathan Wittman. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 1410 Lawrence Road, Hillsborough.
