William  "Bill" Howard Somers 

    BURLINGTON — William  "Bill" Howard Somers , age 84, of 3216 S. Church St., died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at UNC Hospitals. He was a native of Rockingham County and the son of the late Lester and Annie Ross Somers  and the husband of the late Evelyn May Somers .

    Bill was a member of St. Mark’s Reformed Church and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. People will remember Bill for his many letters to the editor in the Daily Times News and his daily walks.

    He is survived by his daughters, Lorrie Brown and her husband Steve of Navarre, FL, Terrie Ellenson and her husband Bob of Destin, FL; one son, William  H. Somers , Jr. and his wife Jackie of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, John Bohlen, Brian Bohlen, and Roland Clark III; great grandchildren, Grace Bohlen, William  Bohlen, Jack Bohlen, and Alicia Clark; sister; Nell Coley of Burlington and special friend, Bell Roney.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, Lester Irvin Somers and sisters Frances Beckom and Mable Peeler.

    The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at St. Mark’s Reformed Church by Rev. Ben Bishop. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 PM at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.

    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palaitive Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to St. Mark’s Reformed Church, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
