John was the son of the Preacher James Smith who was born in Ireland and immigrated to America from Belfast in 1740 and died in 1779. His mother was Jane McMickle who passed in 1822.
John, like his dad, was also a preacher. He married married Nancy McClure, the daughter of John McClure, on May 9th, 1797 in Pennsylvania. She was born in 1771 and died on 22 Feb. 1859 in Beaver County, PA.
In 1799 in Gettysburh, PA they had a son that they named John McClure Smith.

He may be buried near his son in the Oak Spring Cemetery, Washington Co., PA 470, Rev John “Smithey” Smith Jr.
