Obituary Online notes for Dr. John Eugene BOTTSFORD Jr.
Dr. John Eugene Bottsford, Jr., 83, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after losing a brave battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia.
Born in Madison, WI, on October 6, 1935, a son of the late John E. Bottsford, Sr. and Maybelle Laura Shadel Bottsford.
After his mother was stricken with tuberculosis, he was taken from her at the age of four and lived with his grandparents, the late Ed and Cora Shadel until he was six. He then returned to live with his father and stepmother, the late Thelma L. Drapier, who raised him.
He was the beloved and devoted husband of Jane Golightly Bottsford.
A pioneer in Peripheral Vascular Surgery, he was the first doctor Fellowshipped in PVS in the Upstate and received numerous awards for his pioneering work.
A graduate of Loma Linda School of Medicine, he served as a medical missionary for three years in Taipei, Taiwan; had an extensive career in medicine and a love for educating young surgeons. He practiced in Greenbay, WI, and established the first Vascular Lab for that region. He finished his Senior Residency in Spartanburg and served patients for 28 years as a private surgeon before retiring in September 2014 due to his illness. He received numerous awards for his pioneering work.
Dr. Bottsford was also a faithful member of the Spartanburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. He believed that it was a privilege to serve others and his prayer was that his love of the Lord be displayed in every aspect of his life.
An avid reader, enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, owning Arabian horses, and golden retrievers, and being an apple farmer.
Also survived by sons, John E. Bottsford, III and Brad Bottsford; daughter, Janna Bottsford; brother, Bruce Bottsford (Edith); sisters, Dolores Tollefson and Alice Cronick; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 2:00 to 3:45 pm, December 29, 2018, at the Colburn Fellowship Hall at the Spartanburg Seventh-day Adventist Church
Memorial Service followed at 4:00 pm in the church sanctuary conducted by Pastor Jerry LaFave and Mr. Brad Durby.
Memorials could be made to the Eddleman Adventist School, Spartanburg, SC; or to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, Spartanburg, SC.
