Dr. Julian Little Kelly, Jr., age 80, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Born March 17, 1923, in Columbia, SC; son of Julian Little Kelly, Sr. and Geneva Swinnie Kelly.
A retired Endodontist; spent his childhood in Danville, VA; graduated high school in Reidsville, NC; in 1943, had naval training at the University of Georgia in Athens; in 1944, he was designated a naval aviator at the Naval Air Training Center in Pensacola, FL; received his B.S. degree from U.S.C.; and in 1953, graduated from Emory University in Atlanta as a Doctor of Dentistry.
Among the many awards received are a former "Outstanding Young Jaycee of the Year" in Atlanta, GA; life member in Supreme Chapter of Delta Sigma Delta in 1953; Chairman of Steering Committee of Southern Endodontic Study Group; Designated a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in 1965; Fellow of the International College of Dentists in 1966; President of the Hinman Dental Society in 1966; General Chairman of the Hinman Dental Society in 1969; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hinman Dental Society in 1990; served as an Advisory Committee Member of the Hinman Dental Society since 1969; Secretary of the American Association of Endodontists from 1971-1973; and President of Georgia Association of Dentists in 1971.
Retired in 1987 and joined his wife "Sis" at Pawley's Island, where she operated Tip Top Inn; served as Mayor of Pawley's Island for seven years and was also the Chairman of the Georgetown County Democratic Party.
Survived by his wife, Katherine "Sis" Kelly; son, Julian Little Kelly, III; daughters, Julie Carnes and Janice Quesada; sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" Kelly Settle; one grandson; one granddaughter; a step-daughter; one step-granddaughter; and a step-great-grandson.
A "Celebration of Life" was held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2003, at the Conference Center of Pawleys Plantation, Pawley's Island.
