March 20, 1925 ~ June 9, 2025 (age 100)
Irene Poythress Qualls, 100, of Burlington, NC passed away at the Alamance House on Monday, June 9, 2025.
A native of Alamance County, NC, she was the wife of the late Rev. Rainey B. Qualls, Sr. and the daughter of LeBaron Poythress and Mattie Adams Poythress, both deceased.
She and her late husband were the founding members of Landmark Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 60 plus years.
She retired from Trails End Rental Office as the Assistant Manager and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include a daughter, Betsy Q. Tapp of Burlington; son, Daniel Hampton Qualls and wife Cheryl of Graham; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Qualls and Lynn Qualls; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren: 19 great-great grandchildren; and two great-great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen Q. Hodgin; two sons, Rainey B. Qualls, Jr. and Harvey F. Qualls; two sisters, Helen P. Horner and Florence P. Hudson; and three brothers, Frank L. Poythress, Shelton W. Poythress, and W. E. “Gene” Poythress.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Cliff Wilson and Rev. Larry Janey with the family receiving friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
