Obituary Online notes for Cecil Edward HEWITT
When I heard that Dad only had a few hours, to a few days to live, I went to the nursing home in Tulsa, about 11:30am that Saturday, February 12, 2011 and was alone with him until he passed away.
He was on oxygen and had IVs plugged into his arm. His eyes were closed and was breathing hard. He was breathing so hard, it was like he was running a marathon race. His eyes were closed, and he was not responding or talking to me.
I reminiced telling him stories of things I appreciated him doing for me, over the years. For example, helping me buy my first motorcycle at the age of 13-1/2. My first car, at the age of 16 (1963 Chevolet Impala, gold color, 2 door hardtop.).
Occasionally, I'd tell him that I loved him.
At one point, I felt the Holy Spirit tell me that it was OK to come home (Heaven). At that moment, it hurt to think of telling Dad that.
After a few moments, I gave in and said, "Dad, it's OK. You're a Christian and I'm a Christian. One day we'll be back together again, and will be able to sit, talk, joke around and laugh together. The best part about it will be that we will be able to do it forever and no one will be able to stop us, again.”
At that moment, he stop breathing for a moment, then started again. But, this time he begin to breath normally and relaxed.
Over a few minutes, he would occasionally stop breathing, then start again. Each time, I caught myself thinking, "NO, not now!!" (Meaning. "Don't die, Dad! Not now!)
Soon, he opened his eyes a little, and a little tear ran out of each of his eyes, and down each cheek, as he seemed to be looking up. I stood up, gently leaned over him, and gently/carefully hugged my Dad, and told him that I loved him.
Shortly after that, Dad stopped breathing. My wife came up behind me and asked if I was alright. Told her, "Yes. I think Dad is gone. Would you go get a nurse, to check him?" Shortly, the nurse came in, checked Dad's vitals, and confirmed that Dad had passed away.
I miss my Dad.
I loved my Dad and told him, often. He and I would hug each other, when I used to drive up to Nowata to visit him, when he lived in his house, there.
In addition to working jobs at different places, over the years, he studied at night from classes he took in Joplin, MO, he worked evenings having started his own business named: "Cecil's Radio and TV"
