Obituary Online notes for Zula Jean COUNCILMAN
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jean Councilman Riley, 81, of The Homeplace, formerly of Cabin Road, Alamance, passed away at 11:35 PM Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Burlington.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Thomas Franklin Riley Sr. and daughter of the late Harvey Eugene Councilman and Beulah Story Councilman. Jean was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, the Fesperman Sunday School Class, and was an active member of the Ladies Circle as well as the Sewing Club.
Jean was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and she is survived by her daughter, Zula Riley Hinshaw and husband, Ken, of Liberty; son, Thomas Franklin Riley Jr., of Alamance; daughter-in-law, Cheryl B. Riley of Alamance; five grandchildren, Kendra King and husband, Jeff, Kelly Chappell and husband, Josh, Tim Davis, Heather Riley and Casey Price and husband, C.W.; seven great-grandchildren, Cameron and Sydney King, Whitt, Ella and Mary Wade Chappell, Ryleigh Garrison and Emma Price; and her beloved dog and companion, Bailey. She was a great friend to many people.
Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Crawley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 10, at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington with the Rev. Phillip Myers, the Rev. Larry May and the Rev. Farron Duncan officiating. Entombment will follow at the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. Other times they will be at the residence of the daughter, Zula Hinshaw, 8502 Kenly Drive, Liberty, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville MD 20852, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
