John Avery Scotton, 40, of 530 Edgewood Dr. died April 10, 1995, in a car accident.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 7 p.m. tonight at First United Methodist Church with Father Frank Maguire officiating. Committal Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Fairview Cemetery.
John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensboro where he was a CCD instructor and a member of the Parrish Council. He was past president of the Liberty Lions Club, a baseball and basketball coach with the Liberty Parks and Recreation and a Major in the National Guard. John was self-employed.
Surviving are his wife, Eva Williams Scotton; sons, John Scotton Jr. and James Scotton; daughter, Leah Scotton; mother, Mary Lee Scotton of Staley; sisters, Mary Lynn Piven of Iowa City, Iowa and Sarah Scotton of Greensboro; brothers, Phillip Scotton of Ramseur, Mike Scotton of Charlotte, Greg Scotton of Randleman, Thomas Scotton of Greensboro, Paul Scotton of Asheboro, Jimmy Scotton of Climax and David Scotton of Julian.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. tonight at First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 814 Duke St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401 or to Children's Home Society, 740 Chestnut St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401.
