Billie Joe Cox, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on July 26, 1952, to Elmer Ray Cox and Beulah Ann Williamson Cox, Billie's life was one of dedication, service, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and kindness that will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Billie is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Elizabeth "Sissy" Cox, and their son, Ray Cox, and Beth. He was a proud Poppie to Gracie Anne, whose presence brought him immeasurable joy. Billie's memory will also be cherished by his brothers, Charles Cox (Deborah), Jerry Cox (Anita), Kenneth Cox (Lynette), and his sisters, Sarah Hunter (Rick) and Shirley Leath.
Before his passing, Billie was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Wade Cox, Lee Cox, Roger Cox, James Cox, Ray Cox and Glenn Cox. The family takes solace in knowing that Billie has now rejoined his loved ones who had gone before him.
Billie proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his bravery and commitment to his nation. He has been a member of the American Legion Post #427 in Haw River for 50 years. Following his military service, Billie retired from Chandler Concrete, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. His colleagues knew him as a man who could fix anything, a skill he took great pride in.
Beyond his work, Billie had a passion for gardening, and he was particularly known for growing great tomatoes. Billie's interests extended to his love for wood working and fixing things, a hobby that he pursued with enthusiasm as long as he was able.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Monday, August 25, 2025 at McCray Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. Following the graveside service the family will be at the home of his son, Ray Cox 1420 Jeffries Cross Road, Burlington, NC 27217. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #427 PO Box 1002 Haw River, NC 27258 or Hawfields Civitan Club 2115 B HWY 119 South Mebane, NC 27302. 262, Billie Joe Cox
