Born in 1839 in Randolph Co., Indiana the son of Jacob Fleming and Rebecca Hickman Fleming.
Enlisted at Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa as a 22 yr. old on June 24,1861 in Co. B, 5th Iowa Infantry. Discharged for disability Jan.30, 1862 at Syracuse, Mo.
Filed for an invalid pension on Feb.6,1863 with application # 9857 but never received a certificate. (perhaps suggesting his death before the claim was processed).
A claim for a minor pension in the name of Rollin G. Fleming et al was filed May 23,1895 from Kansas with application # 614.473, however no certificate was ever issued.
The roster for the 1887 reunion for the 5th Iowa listed Job as reported to have died since discharge.
