Hannah Gauby Ball VanScoyoc, one of ten children born to John Gauby and Leah Merkey Gauby, was born March 23, 1893, in Washington County, kansas, and died at the Republic County hospital, Belleville on February 14, 1974, at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 21 days.
She attended schools in Washington County and was a member of the Brethern Church, Washington.
She had been an elementary school teacher. She lived in Washington County for 21 years, Belleville for 25 years, and Anderson County for 20 years.
On September 29, 1914, she was united in marriage to Ralph Ball of Belleville and to this union four children were born.
She moved back to Belleville in 1963, and for the past three years, she had been living in the Long Term Care of the Republic County hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ball, in 1941; her parents and two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her children, Lawrence A. Ball of Belleville; Elvin W. Ball and wife, Esther, of El Cerrito, Calif.; Laveda Cornett and husband, Francis, of Belleville; Allen Ball and wife, Nancy of Welda; eight grandchildren, five sisters, Lydia Whipkey of California; Nora Ditmars of Washington; Bessie Dague of Washington; Anna Dexter, Wamego; Lillie Elliott of Fisk, Mo.
Funeral services were held at the Tibbets Funeral home Saturday, February 16, 1974, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harry Blackburn officiating. Burial was made at the Belleville Cemetery. 470, Hannah Gauby VanScoyoc
