Lea Roberson "Bill" Phelps Sr., 83, of Durham, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008.
Mr. Phelps was born in Orange County, a son of the late Lance Haywood Phelps and Lizzie Ward Phelps. He owned and operated Phelps Wall Covering. He was a longtime member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and the former church secretary. He loved the outdoors and working in his garden.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, with burial following at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Survivors: his wife of 65 years, Ruby Wray Phelps; one son, Bob Phelps, of Raleigh; one daughter, Brenda Ray Phelps, of Pinehurst; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, Paxton Phelps.
