L.J. Rogers, Jr., 77, of Mebane, North Carolina, son of the late Linwood J. Rogers, Sr. and Blanche Sharpe Rogers, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with cancer.

L.J. is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Rimmer Rogers; daughter, Teresa Rogers Pittman of Mebane; son, Ronald Rogers and wife Lori of Cedar Grove; and daughter Michele Rogers Crisp and husband Randall of Mebane; seven grandchildren, Mitchell Pittman, Natalie Pittman, Jacob Rogers, Allison Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Cameron Crisp and Savannah Crisp. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Rogers and wife Yvonne of Mebane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Diane; and an infant son, L.J. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.

L.J. was born in Orange County on July 21, 1938. He graduated Aycock High School in 1957. He graduated from Mars Hill Junior College in 1959 and then attended NC State. After his father's death, he took over the management of the family farm and fertilizer business in Northern Orange County. The expansion of the fertilizer business led to the establishment of LJ Rogers Trucking in 1987. He remained a part of the family business until his health declined.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 19, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11 a.m at Mt. Adar Baptist Church, 7416 NC Hwy 49, Mebane. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be at LJ and Nancy's home.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or the Mt. Adar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Arrangements are by Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough.
