Blanch was born November 28, 1903 in Guilford County.
She was the daughter of the late David L. Pritchett and Dora Zimmerman Pritchett. She graduated from Monticello High School and then attended Woman's College in Greensboro now known as UNC-G. She received her teaching certificate and taught grades 1-3 in a one room school in Ruffin, North Carolina.
Blanch married Robert S. Payne and they raised three children on the family farm in McLeansville, NC. After her husband's death in 1964, she lived at home, was involved in the local garden club and went on many senior citizens trips.
After breaking her hip in January 2003 at age 99, she began living at The Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Burlington, NC.
