Obituary Online notes for Luella Mae ARCHBOLD
Luella Mae Updike (Archbold), 95, of Warren, Indiana, went to heaven on Wednesday, January 07, 2015.

Luella came into the world on June 17, 1919, and was the second child born to John and Edna Archbold of, Ossian, Indiana.

She met and married, Wallace W. Updike on 12/31/1941 and set up housekeeping on the family farm in Huntington, Indiana, where they lived until 1996 when they relocated to the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, Indiana. Wallace preceded her in death in 1998.

Luella graduated from, Ossian High School in 1937 and started working immediately thereafter. Luella was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene of Huntington, Indiana and enjoyed helping wherever she was needed. She enjoyed reading her bible and loved to discuss the life of Jesus Christ.

Luella was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Archbold and her parents.

She leaves a son, Alan Updike of Huntington, three grandchildren, Diana Shenefield, Linda Tomlinson and Brian Updike all of Huntington, Indiana a sister, Joan Brewer, of Fort Wayne, Indiana , six great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Luella retired from the Huntington County Auditor’s office after twenty-five years and, and shortly thereafter, decided she would travel; she visited all but 2 of the United States. She was passionate about being a homemaker, mom and grandmother. She loved to garden, cook and grow the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and loved getting together whenever possible. If you ever left hungry after having a meal at her home, it was your own fault, there was always plenty to eat, and you never, ever, left hungry; stuffed maybe, but never hungry.

Luella collected friends like others collect shoes or ties; they were all different but fit just right! She loved to laugh and tell stories of childhood pranks and life on the farm. Luella thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship of family and church friends, and loved just being in the moment.

Anyone that knew her also knew her love for the color red; you’re welcome to wear this color in her memory, she would love it! Her soul is at rest today and her memory remains in our hearts a lifetime. She will be missed!
