Sarah Smith
November 27, 1978 - June 18, 2019
Sarah Ann Smith (Scholting) was born in Omaha, Nebraska on November 27, 1978 to Suzette Scholting (Jones) and Albert Scholting, Sr. and passed away in her home in Sioux Falls on June 18, 2019. She was a loving daughter, sister and mother who will be greatly missed.
Anyone that knew Sarah growing up could tell you she was daddy’s little girl. Her mother would joke about Sarah having him “wrapped around her little finger” to which he would reply, “daddy’s little girl deserves the best of me.” When she wasn’t being her dad’s shadow, she could be found playing in the street with her brother and the neighborhood kids or at the many gatherings at Grandpa Jones’ farm where there were fireworks and all the family came.
Sarah was quick-witted and intelligent, as well as fiercely independent and organized. She attended high school at North High School. Being on the honor roll and being awarded student of the month were just a few of her many accomplishments. In the summers she attended a summer leadership workshop and volunteered for the Special Olympics. After high school she went on to take classes at Killian Community College and Rasmussen College.
She married John Smith in November of 2002 and they lived together in the cities of San Diego, Omaha, and Savannah. They had two beautiful children together. When they separated, Sarah moved to Sioux Falls. She held jobs at Citibank and Best Buy but her real passion was online gaming, role playing games in particular. Sarah prided herself on her collection of gaming memorabilia such as Pokemon cards and she collected stuffed animals.
Sarah loved her family and friends deeply and sincerely. Everyone knew she would always be there to lend an ear and shoulder if they needed it.
Very thankful to having shared in her life were her daughters Grace and Kaelyn Smith. She is also survived by her older “bro”, Albert Scholting, Jr.; his spouse, Cherrish Slocum and everal family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Suzette and Albert Scholting, Sr.; grandparents, Gustav and Ethel Scholting, Alan and Annette Jones.
A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 2:00pm by Pastor Michael Bang.
The burial service will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 9:30am at the Minnehaha County Cemetery located at 60th North Street and Highway 136 in Sioux Falls, SD
