Marie Thompson Huffines, 86, of Elon, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, with her children by her side. She had been in failing health for seven years. She was born July 6, 1927 to Lonnie and Ruth Thompson, both deceased. Marie is pre-deceased by her husband Joseph C. Huffines, Jr. (J.C.) and her sister Jane Thompson Beckom. She is survived by her daughter Kathie Thompson (G.W.) of Raleigh, her son, Terry Huffines (Jeannie) of Rocky Mount, two grandchildren, Krista Thompson Dugger (Leonard) of Greensboro and Melanie Huffines, of Southern Pines and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Jayden Dugger of Greensboro. She is survived by her sister Barbara Bryant (Arnold) and by brothers, Desmond Thompson (Helen), Roger Thompson (Brenda) and Ronnie Thompson (Peggy) and a brother-in-law Ben Beckom all of Elon. She also has several cherished nieces and nephews. Marie grew up in the A-O Community and was a faithful, lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she and J.C. were married, raised their children, and served. Along with her love of family, her faith was a central part of who she was. The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mark Clark.
