Mr. Clyde Edwin Apple

ELON COLLEGE — Mr. Clyde Edwin Apple, 83, of 5617 Baldwin Road, died at 10:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh after an illness of 18 months, one week critical.

A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Oleta Barber Apple and the son of Mr. Gus R. Apple and Mrs. Annie Shepherd Apple, both deceased.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Friedens Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Friedens Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Barbara A. Clark of Burlington; a son, Mr. Edwin G. Apple of McLeansville; a sister, Mrs. Blanche A. Kirkman of Cartersville, Ga.; a brother, Dr. J.L. Apple of Raleigh; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lula A. Summers, a brother, Mr. Ervin G. Apple, and two half brothers, Mr. Arlie Apple and Mr. Floyd Apple.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Friedens Lutheran Church by the Rev. Richard Rhoades, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening.
