Rev. Peter Thomas Klapp
On May 28, 1931 , at his home near Elon College , N. C., Rev. Peter Thomas Klapp, a faithful and earnest minister of this Conference, passed from labor to reward, in his 84th year.
He was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1875, and was active in the ministry until failing health incapacitated him, physically, from rendering active service. He spent some fifty-six years in the ministry.
He was a man of deep convictions, great energy, determined purpose and consecration. His piety led him to self-denial and to abundant labors for his Lord and Master and for the church he loved. He was a devoted, loyal, gospel preacher, true to his convictions of truth as he saw it. He was a great believer in and advocate of foreign missions.
We, of this Conference, shall see his face no more in our earthly counsels, nor hear his voice in our earthly deliberations pleading for missions and other righteous causes; but we who have known him, labored with him and loved him believe that there remaineth a rest unto the people of God and that he has entered into his rest; into that house not made with hands, eternal and in the heavens; and that we, if faithful, shall meet him on a brighter and better shore, saved by grace.
The funeral services were in charge of Revs. J. O. Atkinson, J. U. Newman, R. M. Rickets and J. W. Patton. The services were from the home and the interment was in the Elon College cemetery.
Resolved: That we as a conference assembled express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved in the passing of the one they loved.
Resolved: That this memoir to our brother be spread on our minutes in memory of and as a token of our esteem and love for him.
