Monte Lee Prince Markley Obituary

Ms. Monte Lee Prince Markley, 43, of Elon passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Monte was born in Guilford County and was a graduate of Western High School. She worked over the years at Apollos Restaurant and worked as a substitute in the Alamance-Burlington School System. Monte joined Elon as a member of the Facilities Management team in 2015, and later moved to Elon Campus Safety and Police in 2022. Monte was a hard worker, and her work ethic was unparalleled. She loved her job, and working with the students of Elon College.

She was a strong, loving woman with an always positive attitude and an infectious smile. She was a fiercely loyal and giving friend, a devoted daughter and a selfless, loving mother to her son. Monte found the good in everyone and had a heart full of love and acceptance. She had been a member of Integrity Church and had a strong faith and dedication to God.

She is survived by her mother, Lynn Cobb and her husband Wade of Burlington; her father, Harold Prince and his wife Eileen of Virginia; sister, Amanda Kilcrease and her husband Carl of Lexington, S.C.; brother, Gary Prince and his wife Sarah of Lancaster, S.C.; two step-sisters, Amy Rodgers and her husband Todd of South Carolina and Tammy Cobb of Georgia; two step-brothers, Derek Cobb of Burlington and Gary Cobb of South Carolina; and her maternal grandmother, Monte Lee Tickle of Graham.

Monte was preceded in death by the love of her life, her son, James Lee Yancey Markley, and her maternal grandfather, Burley Tickle.
