Elon-William C. “Bill” Woods, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Peak Resources, surrounded by his family. He was born in Alamance County to the late Corbette Boyd and Hellen Crawford Woods. He was the husband of 61 years to Joann Lowe Woods who survives.
Bill Owned and Operated Woods Metal Shop for over 50 years. He repaired Snapper lawn mowers for his father-in-law, Willie Lowe when he was younger. He was a member of Carolina Christian Church where he served as an usher for many years. Bill was a track welder and clean up crewman at ACE Speedway for most of his adult life. He was on the Sasser Construction Busch team and he built race cars, trailers and bleachers for ACE and Piedmont Dragway. He annually went to the Daytona 500 with relatives and friends. Bill loved his family spending time going to the beach, Cherokee and camping at Lakewood Camp Ground. He restored cars and spent many weekends with his wife, Joan at car shows. Bill had restored a Hudson and was a member of the Hudson Club.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joan Lowe Woods of the home; his son, William Craig Woods; Jimmy Sasser and wife, Kay who was like his brother and his canine companion, “Hudson”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Robin Lynn Rumley Woods.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Bill’s will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mark Mitchell assisted by Rev. Steve Austin and Rev. Garland Walker with the burial to follow at Shallowford Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
