Miss Emma F. Simpson
BURLINGTON — Miss Emma Faye Simpson, 96, of 123 Cameron St., died at 9 a.m. Friday, March 12, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a critical illness of one week.
Born May 5, 1902, in Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Jefferson Davis Simpson and Mrs. Frances Wilson Simpson, both deceased. She was a retired registered nurse. She received her training at Alamance General Hospital on Rainey Street and was licensed as a registered nurse in 1925. She practiced nursing at Alamance General Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Alamance for more than 50 years.
She received a 15-year pin in 1991 from the American Red Cross, Burlington Chapter, and continued in volunteer service until age 92. She was instrumental in founding Alamance Nurses Association in 1932, and was a charter member and its first vice president. She continued as a member of the N.C. Nurses Association. She was a member of First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Claude L. Simpson and Mr. William M. Simpson; four sisters, Miss Ida C. Simpson, Miss Nettie Simpson, Miss Ruth Simpson and Mrs. Lina Simpson Madren.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Robert Barrows and the Rev. Dermont Reid. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at the home from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.
