William Rainey Compton, 90, of Burlington passed away at his residence on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Shirley Butler Compton, who survives and the son of Samson Compton and Mary Gilbert Compton, both deceased. He was a graduate of Anderson High School and formerly worked in textiles as a supervisor. William was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include his daughters, Renea Compton Phillips and Amy Compton Burton and husband Jim; grandchildren, Lauren Batchelor and husband Nick, Matthew Phillips and wife Melinda, Amy Caroline McKinnon and husband Thad, and William “Will” Burton; great grandchildren, Carter and Cole Batchelor, Caleb and Mckenna Phillips, and Parker McKinnon; and a sister, Grace Compton Lipscomb. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Ruth Compton Hawkins, Roy Lee Compton, and Don Compton.
A graveside service will be conducted at Alamance Memorial Park on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Jim Mitchell. 261, William Rainey Compton
