Norma Elizabeth Shue

Norma Elizabeth Shue, 90, was welcomed home into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, May 8, 2014, after a period of declining health.

She was born to the late Harvey Leslie Shue Sr. and the late Lizzie Dale Smith Shue on June 13, 1923, in Graham, N.C. Having lost both parents as a child, Ms. Shue enjoyed growing up at the Junior Home Orphanage located in Tiffin, Ohio, where she built many lifelong friendships. Upon returning to Graham, Ms. Shue graduated from Alamance Community College, and enjoyed a life built upon the service of others, working as a Certified Nurses’ Assistant at Twin Lakes, as well as with other in-home patients. She enjoyed a ministry of encouragement to others through sending cards, visits and phone calls. But of all of life’s gifts, none were as precious to Ms. Shue as her family and the opportunity she had to love and nurture her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Everywhere she went, she carried a sweet spirit that was sure to remind you that you were loved.

Ms. Shue was preceded in death by her sisters, Ione Staley and Grace Howard; and brothers, Robert Shue, Desmond Shue and Harvey Shue Jr.

She is survived by a brother, Walter E. Shue, of Siler City; son, John L. Engle, of Greensboro; three daughters, Betty J. Engle of Greensboro, Kathy E. Reese and husband David of Gibsonville and Sheree E. Hall and husband Keith of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Trinity Worship Center with the Rev. Darrell Cox and the Rev. Bryan Turner officiating. The body will remain at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church for the service.

Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery in Graham. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to give special thanks to Bonnie Thompson and her team at Homeplace of Burlington, as well as Marnie Shotwell, Holly Lux-Sullivan, Judy Baldwin, and the dedicated team at Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, for their passionate care of Ms. Shue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell or Trinity Worship Center of Burlington.
