Obituary Online notes for Marie Albertine ADAMS
SUMTER - Marie Albertine Adams Southard, 95, cherished mother, grandmother; great grandmother, and beloved widow of Herschell Maurice Southard, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 with her family at her bedside.
Daughter of the late Ola Lydia and Thomas Nowell Adams, she was born January 9, 1917 in Raleigh, NC.
After marrying in 1940 and Herschell's completion of Army Air Corp service, together they relocated Columbia in 1946 and opened and operated Petroleum Equipment Company, Inc. until his retirement in 1981. She joyfully raised three daughters and volunteered with church service and various other activities in Columbia. Losing Herschell after fifty years of marriage, she relocated to Sumter, SC in 1992. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter and in the past few years happily resided at Covenant Place.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her beloved daughter Jan.
Nana was a woman of deep abiding faith and lived her life by the Golden Rule. She leaves a beautiful legacy to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of not only how to live with honor and grace, but also how to die with dignity.
A private graveside service will take place on Friday afternoon at Woodridge Memorial Park.
