David Haywood Adams died Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice. He was born March 8, 1921 in Raleigh, NC to Thomas N. Adams and Ola Barber Adams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Jordan Adams; sister, Albertine A. Southard; infant sister, Ola J. Adams; and brothers Herbert B. Adams and Thomas N. Adams.
He is survived by a daughter, Maureen A. Burgess and a sister, Sarah A. Coates.
He attended Hugh Morson High School, Brevard College, and Kings Business College. He served his country during WWII with the U.S. Marine Corps and saw action in the SW Pacific. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1986.
Graveside funeral rites will be Thursday, October 16, 11:00 AM, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:45 AM-10:45 AM prior to the service at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake forest Road, Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Raleigh Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, or Temple Baptist Church, 1417 Clifton St., Raleigh, NC 27604.
