Charles Edward Cobb
McLEANSVILLE — Mr. Charles Edward Cobb, 79, of 5454 Timbermill Road, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at his home. Born June 20, 1922 in Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Martha Jane Howard Cobb, and the son of the late Clifford Vernon Cobb and Mollie Brown Cobb.
Before an accident in 1975 left him a quadriplegic, Charles was active in the church and community. As a member of Frieden’s Lutheran Church, he held various leadership positions. He formerly served on the board of directors for the McLeansville Fire Department and was a member of FCX and the Grange. Charles and his wife, Martha Jane, farmed with a love of nature and respect for the environment. His hobbies and interests were music, woodworking, motorcycles, and square dancing with the Buck and Does. Charles was a devoted husband and father. Even after his accident, he continued to provide guidance and support for his family.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Howard Loy of Gibsonville, Diana and Tommy Black of McLeansville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Brenda Cobb of McLeansville; sisters, Elsie Hill and Edna Kivett of McLeansville and Annie Panaccione of Bayonne, N.J.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Cobb and Ralph Cobb; a sister, Ruth Tickle; a granddaughter, Christy Loy; and stepgrandson, Jeff Lowe.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Friedens Lutheran Church by the Rev. Raymond Petrea, pastor, and the Rev. Henry Reese, retired pastor.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, 6001 N.C. 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249, or to a charity of choice. Forbis and Dick North Elm Street is in charge of arrangements.
