Obituary Online notes for Stanley Proffitt COBB
McLEANSVILLE, NC — Mr. Stanley P. Cobb, 77, died peacefully at Beacon Place on Thursday, May 13, 2010.
Funeral services were held at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11 am.
Stanley was born on June 20, 1932 and lived in McLeansville, NC his entire life. He graduated from McLeansville School in 1950.
He served his country in the US Army as a military policeman in Germany.
His career focused on farming and the construction industry. Stanley retired as a building inspector from the Redevelopment Commission of Greensboro, where he met many life-long friends.
Stanley was a life-long member of Mount Pleasant UMC. He was a proud member of the Reid Bible Class and often made his famous strawberry ice cream for Sunday School socials.
Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Cobb Sr. and Katie Lee Sockwell Cobb. Also by his wife, Peggy Pritchett Cobb.
Survivors include his children; daughter, Cheryl Cobb Thompson (Stephen); sons, Rick Lane Cobb (Amanda) and Ryan Andrew Cobb (Shannon); grandchildren, Trey, Justin, Trenton, and Lindsey Welch, Sydney Newman, Alex and Abbi Cobb, Andrew, Brandon, Jordyn, Mackenzie Cobb and Austin Reese; great-grandchildren; Neil IV, Tristan, Trinity Welch, Gavin Welch; brother, James Robert Cobb Jr. (Elizabeth); sisters, Virginia Kirkman, Marie O'Shields (Steve), Frances Phillips, Thelma Crutchfield (Lawrence), Gladys Clapp (John), Rita Rodabaugh (Carl).
His special friend, Lucille Payne spent over 26 years loving and caring for him. They were travel partners and enjoyed camping, fishing, and Brown's Ole Opry.
