Douglas James Stewart


Mr. Douglas James Stewart, 82, formerly of Greensboro went to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 19, 2017.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Deborah Siler Stewart and the son of Cletus J. Stewart and Vivian Greeson Stewart, both deceased.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Western Electric. He was past president of CWA (Community Workers of America). He was an avid Tar Heel fan and baseball fan and loved to play golf.
Survivors include a son, Anthony “Tony” Stewart and wife Dana of Burlington; daughter, Sandra D. Stewart of Greensboro; grandson, Brice Harris and Amber of Greensboro; three great-grandchildren, Riley Harris, McKenzie Harris and Kaylie Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Stewart Cox; three brothers, C. A. Stewart, Earl Stewart and Larry Stewart; and sister, Julia Stewart.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. by Pastor Mike Williams with the family receiving friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Other times they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers, Faye Parker and Tammy Ledford and also to the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
