Eugene Bowens Jr.

BURLINGTON — Eugene Bowens Jr., 83, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Vance County, on June 8, 1931, to the late Eugene and Bessie Lee Bowen Sr. and was the husband of 63 years to Patty Elizabeth Conner Bowens, of the home.

Eugene was a charter member of Friendly Lane Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was the owner and operator of One Hour Valet Dry Cleaners for many years while also working at LabCorp where he later retired. He was an avid sportsman spending his time playing baseball, softball or fishing. His love for baseball became a reality when he caught his first and only Major League Baseball game with the Detroit Tigers before being called up to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Rickey Bowens (Louise) of Siler City, Ronald “Ronnie” Bowens (Judy Foster) of Burlington; daughter, Linda Bowens Faucette (Jay) of Burlington; six grandchildren,

nine greatgrandchildren; a brother, Michael Bowens (Elizabeth); and a sister, Shirley Morton (Jackie).

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Carlton Bowens and Jimmy Bowens.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Friendly Lane Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Cox with the burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
