Mr. Robert B. Underwood

BURLINGTON — Mr. Robert B. Underwood, 82, of 5040 N.C. 62 South, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2003 at his home after one year of declining health.

A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Sue G. Underwood, who survives, and the son of John Wesley Underwood and Murkdeese Apple Underwood, both deceased. He was a retired machinist at Engineered Plastics. He was a member of Brick Reformed United Church of Christ and a former Consistory member. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a life member of D.A.V.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a sister, Mrs. Bobbie King of Gibsonville; and two brothers, Mr. Woodrow Underwood of Whitsett and Mr. Charlie (Billie) Underwood of Brown Summitt.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Mary Mitchell, Miss Willie Underwood, Mrs. Florence Flynt, Mrs. Nita Summers and Miss Alma Underwood; and a brother, Mr. J.D. Underwood.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Brick Reformed United Church of Christ by Dr. Wally Fonville II, pastor. Burial will be in Brick Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 today at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Brick Reformed United Church of Christ Memorial Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 27, Whitsett, N.C. 27377-0027.3, Mr. Robert B. Underwood
