CHAPEL HILL — Mr. Franklin D. Smith, 62, of 2263 John Oakley Road, Prospect Hill, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Born Jan. 9, 1938, in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Eva Lynn Durham Smith, who survives, and the son of Mr. Elijah Floyd Smith and Mrs. Eva Moore Smith, both deceased. He was superintendent of the Orange County Correctional Center and a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Timothy Ray Smith of Greensboro and Mr. Mark Douglas Smith of Burlington; two sisters, Ms. Mary S. Surber and Ms. Ruth S. McCann, both of Burlington; and two brothers, Mr. Jack R. Smith of Burlington and Mr. Howard M. Smith of Prospect Hill.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Lea Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas C. Elliott. Burial will be in the Cooper Family Cemetery in Prospect Hill.
The family will be at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville from 7 to 8:30 this evening and at other times at the home.
