O.E. Simmons , Jr.

ELON — Mr. O. E. Simmons , Jr., 76, of 3882 Kerr’s Chapel Road, Elon died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 2:15 a.m. Our Beloved "Daddy June" went home to be with Jesus.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Nell Jean Chilton Simmons  who survives and the son of Otis Elisha Simmons  and Bessie Tate Simmons , both deceased.

He was a member of Integrity Community Church. He served faithfully at Concord Christian Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School Teacher. At The First Church of the Nazarene he had served on the Church Board and as a Sunday School Teacher. Only recently did he join Integrity Community Church to be with his family. A Gideon since 1986, he has served as the N.C. State Area Director, State New Member Coordinator, and State Gideon Chaplain. He was a residential builder and farmer.

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two sons, Mr. Randy Simmons  and wife, Delores of Elon and Mr. Timmy Simmons  of Raleigh; one daughter, Mrs. Tammy S. Wrenn and husband, Bud of Burlington; five grandchildren, Derek Simmons  and wife, Brandi, Mr. Drew Simmons  and wife, Shanon, Mr. Jacob Wrenn, Miss Hannah Wrenn, and Miss Katy Wrenn; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Miller, Makayla Simmons , and Blake Simmons ; three sisters, Miss Frances Simmons  of Burlington, Mrs. Catherine Simon of Wilmington, DE and Mrs. Shirley Toadvine of Florence, KY; two brothers, Mr. John M. Simmons  of Apex and Mr. Carl M. Simmons  of Raleigh; one uncle, Mr. Felix Simmons , and three aunts, Mrs. Pearl Bowman, Mrs. Gracie Shambley, and Mrs. Frances Gilliam.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Betty S. Culberson.

Daddy June fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith (2 Timothy 2:7). We are sure that once Daddy June heard the words, "Well done my good and faithful servant!" Jesus had to say "I have got a job for you to do. You know all those homes, tables and cabinets you built for your family? Well, we need your perfected talent I gave you to help build rooms in our mansions for your family coming soon."
Daddy, you keep building and we will keep telling the Good News of Jesus. We will see you soon and all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be right behind us. Keep building. We know you have a special hammer now! We love you.
The Worship Celebration of Mr. Simmons’  life will be held at Integrity Community Church on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. led by Bud Wrenn, Pastor of Integrity. Burial will follow the service at Lowe’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, Reidsville, N.C. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1411, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379.
