MEBANE — Mr. Roy W. Oakley Sr., 75, of 243 Lake Latham Road, died at 9:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Christine Huffines Dodson Oakley, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Oakley and Mrs. Elizabeth Blalock Oakley, both deceased. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three stepdaughters, Mrs. Wendy Marie Dodson Gordon of Haw River, Ms. Augustine Dodson and Mrs. Shirley Ann Dodson Smith, both of Mebane; two stepsons, Mr. James “Jimmy” Dodson of Mebane and Mr. Donald Wayne Dodson of Efland; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Edwards of Reidsville and Mrs. Katie Sue Hunt of Haw River; two brothers, Mr. Warren Oakley and Mr. Hubert Oakley, both of Mebane; two grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Roy Wilson Oakley Jr.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Aldridge; and nine brothers, Mr. Alonza Oakley, Mr. John Oakley, Mr. Robert Oakley, Mr. Ireland Oakley, Mr. Walter Oakley, Mr. William Oakley, Mr. Floyd Oakley, Mr. Edgar Oakley and Mr. Clarence Oakley.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Keith Spake, pastor of Faith Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening, and at other times at the home. 3, Mr. Roy W. Oakley Sr.
