BURLINGTON — Ernest Curtis Beckom , 73, of Burch Bridge Road, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2006, at D&M Family Care following several years of declining health. He was the husband of Margaret Sykes Beckom , and the son of the late Ernest and Bertha Ross Beckom . Ernest was a native of Alamance County, retired from Culp Weaving and was a member of Lowe Memorial Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Sykes Beckom of the home; a stepson Edward "Ed" Weeks and his wife, Laura, of Greenville, S.C.; sisters, Frances Kellam and her husband, Marvin, of Burlington, Mary Ruth Durham and her husband, Alton, of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Benjamin Beckom and his wife, Jane, of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene Andrews; and a brother, Ross Beckom .
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Bill Gindlesperger.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., and at other times at the home of a sister-in-law, Carolyn Powell, 703 Chancery St., Elon, N.C.
Memorials may be made to Lowe Memorial Baptist Church, 1712 W. Webb Ave., Burlington, N.C. 27217.
