Mr. Luther  L. Stout

    BURLINGTON — Mr. Luther  L. Stout , 86, of 2680 S. Mebane St., died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 11:10 a.m., at Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.
A native of Alamance County, he was son of the late Amos C. Stout  and Bell Brewer Stout . He was employed with Stout  Forklift and a retired car salesman. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Flying was Luther’s  passion. He was an avid pilot and could be found at the local airport almost daily for some 60 years. Many youngsters and adults experienced their first airplane ride with Luther  at the old Fairchild Airport in Burlington. He loved to perform "dives" and "rolls" in his single engine planes, and always gave his passengers more thrills than they anticipated. On Saturday, July 7th , he made his final solo flight — this time without a plane. He will be missed by many.
Surviving are a son, Mr. Lynn Stout  and wife Morisha of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Temple of Raleigh, and Mrs. Leona Crawford of Burlington; a granddaughter, Jennifer Stout  of Cary; and a granddog, Brandy Stout . He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mrs. Ola Glosson; three halfbrothers, Elvin Stout , Ernest Stout  and Lester Stout .
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington with the Rev. Bill Skenes officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at other times at the residence of a niece, Vickie Felton, 605 Fieldstone Drive.
Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, N.C. 27215.
