Obituary

Katherine Lashley Bell 94 of Burlington, NC passed away at her home Monday September 18, 2023. Katherine was born April 12, 1929 in Burlington, NC. Katherine is the daughter of the late Glen and Annie Thomas Lashley.

She is preceded in death by her brothers Bobby Lashley, Doug Lashley, and David Lashley. Katherine was married to the late Charles Bell.

Mrs. Bell “Mama” is survived by her two children, Robert “Bobby” Gwynn of Burlington, NC, and daughter Brenda Gwynn Burns and husband Walter Burns V of Wilmington, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Katherine’s extended family included her loving and amazing friends at Glen Hope Baptist Church. Katherine was a proud and dedicated member of the church, singing in the choir, and being involved in many church trips activities. The love and fellowship she had with her amazing friends like Buz & Joyce, Bonnie and Lee, Eddie and Vicki, and a favorite friend Sherry that will last forever. The Group enjoyed many trips together, relaxing in her backyard, and breakfast somewhere in town on most Saturday mornings.

Katherine was considered the matriarch of the church. Glen Hope Baptist Church became the center of her life. She is lovingly remembered by generations of church families and loved the Lord. Her chocolate pies and banana puddings will be recalled often with fond memories.

Katherine never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with people wherever she went. She will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Friday September 22, 2023, at Glen Hope Baptist Church. The family will then have a private gravesite service followed with a celebration of Katherine’s life at the fellowship hall at Glen Hope Baptist starting at 2:00pm for all friends and family to attend.
