Charles William “Bill” Baldwin

ELON — Charles William “Bill” Baldwin, 87, of 5630 Baldwin Road, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the Guilford Healthcare Center after 4 1/2 years of failing health and a critical illness of four weeks. A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dewey Phillippe Baldwin, who survives, and the son of the late Presly Alexander and Eugenia Huffman Baldwin. He was a retired farmer and was an avid hunter. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, John William (Judy) Baldwin of Kershaw, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia (Ronnie) B. Summers of Gibsonville and Ms. Linda B. Davenport of Graham; five grandchildren, David and Adam Baldwin, Kellie D. Mays, and Byron and Phillip Summers; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Amber Baldwin; and a sister, Mrs. Mozelle B. Westbrooks of Burlington. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Baldwin; and five sisters, Hattie Baldwin, Vannie Baldwin, Myrtle B. Spencer, Jessie Lowe and Rosa Baldwin. The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Friedens Lutheran Church by the Rev. Raymond Petrea, interim pastor and the Rev. C. Allen Myers III., pastor of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church. Mr. Baldwin will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence.
