Jesse Berman Shelton, 95, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Jesse was born on January 20, 1922 in Pulaski County, Virginia to the late Jethro and Braskie Shelton. He was loving father and Christian. Jesse served in WWII with the 82nd Airborne, 505th P.I.R., Second Battalion, HDQ Company. He was a D-day Veteran and received a Silver Star for his actions in and around Sainte Mere Eglise and a company citation-French Croix De Guerre. Jesse worked for Smith Trucking as a truck driver for 20 years. He also was an avid pilot and motorcycle rider
In addition to his parents Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Valleva Huffman Shelton; son, Danny Shelton; sisters, Shirley Higgs, Ruby Pickerel, and Opal Simpkins; brothers, Willard Shelton and Ray Shelton.
He is survived by his children, Jesse B. Shelton, Jr. (Marye) and Douglas E. Shelton (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Sheila Shelton; grandson, Jesse B. Shelton, III; granddaughter, Rebecca S. Davis; 3 great-grandchildren; step-son, Dolan Shaver; 3 step-grandchildren, Ron Shaver, Jeff Shaver, and Richard Shaver; 3 step-great-grandchildren.
