Obituary Online notes for Moses Peter HUFFMAN
Ninth of sixteen children and fifth of seven sons born to George H Huffman 1802-1884 of North Carolina and Lucinda Ayers 1803-1871 of Georgia.
Grandson of Peter Hoffman 1777-1821 and Elizabeth Troxler 1775-1850, both of North Carolina, Moses Ayers Jr 1775-1856 and Mary Davis 1785-1864, both of Virginia.
The Huffman line goes back to the early 1700s in Germany, and the Ayers line goes back to Massachusetts circa 1660.
Moses first married Elizabeth Troxler 1836-1871, the daughter of Anthony Troxler 1802-1843 and Sarah Cortner 1810-1886, granddaughter of Jacob Troxler 1763-1854, the brother of Elizabeth Troxter 1775-1850 above. They were married about 1855 and had the following children:

* Sarah Lucinda, Mrs Charles Minor 1866-1943

After Elizabeth died in 1871, Moses married widow Frances Weaver Riggins b 1833, of Tennessee. They were married 30 April 1873 (per Tenn State Marriages) in Bedford, Tenn, and had the following children:
* Clement D Huffman b abt 1873
* James Huffman b abt 1875
The 1860 census lists Moses, Elizabeth, daughter Margaret and father William living in District 1 of Lynchburg, Lincoln Tenn., occupation farmer
The 1880 census lists Moses, his wife Fannie (Frances) and children George and Sallie (Sarah) and step son J Wiley Riggins living in District 25 of Bedford, Tenn., occupation farmer.
The 1900 census lists just Moses and Fannie, still in District 25, their marriage year is listed as 1874. Occupation farmer.
The 1910 census lists Moses as a widower living in Township 2 of Merced with son William and his family, wife Sarah, children Oscar, Shelvy and Georgie.
The Civil War Prisoner of War Records 1861-1865 list Moses as a Confederate prisoner in 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia, he was a private from Company B of the 7th (17th?) Tennessee Regiment captured June 17th, transferred 27 July 1864. and paroled 25 Feb 1865. He had enlisted 07 Sept 1862 in Murfreesboro into the 17th Infantry.
In 1874 there was a Supreme Court case, civil debt settlement between Moses and George Huffman.

Moses P Huffman died at the house of his son, W A Huffman [William] in Bradley Addition last Monday. The deceased, who was 79 years, had made his home with his son for some time. Death was due tot he infirmities of old age. The funeral took place Wednesday and was conducted by Rev W D Hawkins.
