Obituary Online notes for William Cambell ALLARD
William C. Allard, son of William and Sallie Allard, was born in Johnson County, Illinois Sept. 13, 1863 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Maude Sutton, Detroit, Mich., April 26, 1924. He was married to Gertrude Huffman April 29, 1888. To this union four children were born, one son, Ray H., of Vienna and three daughters, Zona Farris, Maude Sutton and Charlotte Bazley all of Detroit, all of whom were at his bedside when he passed away. In addition to the above he leaves to mourn his departure seven grandchildren and two brothers, Ambrose Allard of Kinmundy, Ill., and Milo G. of Detroit. (Ambrose was sick and was unable to attend the funeral). His remains were brought to Vienna accompanied by his wife and children and Milo G., arriving Sunday afternoon, April 27th and was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Huffman until the funeral services, which were held at the Baptist Church at 1:30 o'clock in the afternoon on April 29th, followed by interment in the Fraternal Cemetery on the 36th anniversary of their wedding.
The funeral services were conducted by Elders E. R. Steagall of Harrisburg and George Smothers of Creal Springs, both of whom delivered very comforting messages to the bereaving family and friends. The music was consoling and the flowers were profuse and beautiful. The services were conducted with a very impressive ceremony by Vienna Lodge No. 150 A. F. & A. M.
Mr. and Mrs. Allard were spending the winter with their daughters at Detroit and on Good Friday morning he had a sudden attack of appendicitis; the severe pain brought on a chill which developed septic pneumonia in both lungs. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was in vain and He who knows best called him to the Great Beyond. "Campbell" as he was usually called, was converted at an early age and joined the Methodist Church at Glendale, Ill., and later moved his membership to the Baptist Church at Grantsburg, of which he remained a faithful member until death. He was a member of the Guerney Lodge No. 778, A.F. & F.M. located in Simpson. His parents died when he was an infant and he made his home with relatives until he reached manhood, and having been raised an orphan he often remarked that his greatest pleasure was in making hi family happy; he was an unusually kind and considerate husband and father, had a very jovial and affable disposition and a large circle of close friends by whom he will be greatly missed.
