BURLINGTON — Mr. F. Thomas Rice, 83, of 126 Glenwood Ave., died at 9:09 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of one month.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Thelma May Massey Rice and the son of Mr. James Franklin Rice and Mrs. Ossie Massey Rice, both deceased. He was retired from Holt Hosiery and was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Laura Rice Robinson of Irvine, Calif.; a son, Mr. Thomas Lee Rice of Valdese; four sisters, Mrs. Edna McAdams and Mrs. Thelma Farrington, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Lena Mahaley and Mrs. Nellie Mahaley, both of Caswell County; two brothers, Mr. Leo Rice of Burlington and Mr. Charlie Rice of Caswell County; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-stepgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Myrtle Mahaley; and three brothers, Mr. Robert Rice, Mr. Julius Rice and Mr. Frederick Rice.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Burlington, Broad Street, by Dr. Craig T. McMahan, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.3, Mr. F. Thomas Rice
