Mrs. Vater Small Degenova
    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Vater Small Degenova, 92, formerly of Old Hillsborough Road, Mebane, died Sunday, December 14, 2003, at White Oak Manor.
    A native of Alamance County, she was wife of the late Anthony J. Degenova and daughter of the late J.W. and Emma Collins Small. She was the longest living member of First United Methodist Church of Elon, joining the church when she was a teenager. She was a hairdresser and spent most of her adult life in the Washington, DC area.
    She is survived by her twin brother, Vester "Buddy" Small of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews, including Darrell and Margaret Small, who were her caregivers for recent years. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Golden "Red" Small, Howard Small, John Willie Small and Robert Small; sisters, Sadie Armacost, Sallie Wheeler, Ethel Davis and Emma Whitesell.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 17, 2003 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randy Maynard. Interment will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery at a later time. Mrs. Degenova will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. At other times the family will be at the home of Darrell and Margaret Small, 311 Trail 8, Burlington, NC.
